Jean-Michel Claverie is Professor
of Biomedical Bioinformatics at the University of Mediterranée
School of Medicine and Director of the Structural and
Genomic Information Laboratory (www.igs.cnrs-mrs.fr) at
CNRS' Institut de Biologie Structurale et Microbiologie
in
Marseilles, France.
His main current research interest is the origin and evolution
of obligate intracellular parasitism in bacteria and of
the paradoxical very large DNA viruses such as Mimivirus
(www.giantvirus.org). His approaches include genome sequencing,
comparative genomics, structural genomics, and the development
of relevant bioinformatic methods.
He also has a strong interest in the application of the
genomic approach and bioinformatics in the biomedical
and biotechnological fields, such as
the identification of new antibiotic targets.
He is the co-author of more than 120 scientific publications
and of the best-seller introductory book "Bioinformatics
for Dummies". |
