Edu graduated in Molecular Biology in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. After graduated he started his Ph.D at the Protein Design Group (PDG) at CNB (National Center for Biotechnology). Two years later he moved to INB (Spanish Institute for Bioinformatics). While working at INB, he moved increasingly towards computational development and management.
At CNIO since 2006, he is part of the Bioinformatics Unit (Ubio) where he is mainly involved in providing computational facilities to CNIO people. This implies :
-Computational resources.
-Special software development.
-High scale studies at very low genomic levels ….

Moreover he is interested in the study of the non-coding genome. Encode point out that not only the coding sequence in our genome is transcribed, in fact, most of our genome is actively transcribed. The implication of these non-coding elements in the genome machinery is far to be understood. Some of them have been related with chromatin conformation, epigenetic regulation and gene expression control.
